Celebrate Juneteenth at SRWC
Juneteenth commemorates the date – June 19, 1865 – when enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free. This was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in April 1863. Join us at Stanford Redwood City in the coming days to celebrate the culture and contributions of Black Americans.
- On Wednesday, June 15 at noon, members of the African American Quilt Guild of Oakland will showcase their quilt exhibit at the Cardinal Hall Conference Center and they will aslo recount their 20-year history and contributions in the Bay Area. Add to your calendar.
- Attend an in-person cooking conversation at Cardinal Brew on Thursday, June 23 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. with R&DE executive chefs William Montagne, Terry Braggs and Dillon Campbell as they share the origin and cultural significance of featured dishes, as well as preparation techniques and tastings. Register to attend.
- Enjoy lunch specials at Cardinal Café and Cardinal To Go, including gumbo, black-eyed peas and candied yams (6/14-16) and crawfish mac n’ cheese, collard greens, grits, sweet potato pie and sweet tea (6/21-23).
- You're invited to decorate a star, which takes inspiration from the Juneteenth flag, and add it to the art installation wall outside of Cardinal Hall. The fine arts collaborative will take place on Tuesday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The reflective wall surface invites you to see yourself on this important holiday and the beauty we can produce when truly united.
